Ripon, 301 N Acacia Ave, Ripon, CA 95366, USA
About The Event
Coming to Ripon from St. Paul, Minnesota, ventriloquist, singer, and guitarist David Malmberg brings with him a veritable cornucopia of comedy,
voice tossing, story telling, and music.
Joining David on stage will be a passel of performers: America's grouchiest, wisecracking farmer, Leonard Cribble, the lovable Simon Spencer, the totally clueless Lars Gunderson. Voices will appear in bottles, in telephones, in musical instruments and of course from the characters in Malmberg’s outspoken entourage.
Expect the unexpected -- music, rapid repartee, and more.
David and his “co-stars” plan to have the time of their lives – and hope you will too.
About the Artist
Born to a family of professional musicians, David Malmberg has had entertainment in his blood from the beginning. He remembers clearly the first time he saw ventriloquist Paul Winchell on TV and knew he just had to to learn the art of ventriloquism. By the time he was 13, David was practicing voice throwing in the classroom much to the chagrin of his teachers! His parents eventually broke down and purchased a professional figure for him when he was 15.
As a young man, David served in the United States Navy, continuing his voice throwing antics in boot camp, before being assigned as an American Forces Radio DJ to entertain the troops in Cuba and Spain. Thinking he should get “a real job” on returning home, David devoted the next two decade to broadcast radio in Minnesota, until being bitten by that urge to perform live again. On the road, his new shows combined his talents in both ventriloquism and music (David is also a masterful guitarist, integrating folk, jazz and pop with the classical and flamenco guitar styles he studied in Spain.)
From the early 90’s on, David has crisscrossed the country, lugging suitcases for himself and his “dolls,” performing shows of ventriloquism and music for more than a half-million people over the years, working solo and also with popular entertainers like Merle Haggard, Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Statler Brothers, Kathy Mattea. Glen Campbell. He’s tickled about the current rise in the popularity of ventriloquism as seen on Comedy Central and various talent-search television shows.
With a lifetime of entertainment behind him, David just loves to make people laugh.
