Side Street Strutters perform Vinyl Jazz

On Feb 26, 1917, the very first commercially successful jazz recording was made – from then on, jazz was a part of American popular music and culture. In Vinyl Jazz, the Side Street Strutters Jazz Band celebrates more than a century of these recordings: the endearing melodies, famous tunes, and novelty songs that reflected different times in American musical history.

If you count yourself as Disney fan and think you know this band – you are right. For 22 years, the Side Street Strutters treated Disneyland guests to swinging melodies from many eras.

In the Vinyl Jazz performance, the band highlights those Jazz greats whose innovative recordings still influence and entertain music lovers today. With brass, winds, piano, percussion, and humor, the Side Street Strutters revel in the liveliness of “Livery Stable Blues,” “Night in Tunisia,” “Everybody Wants to be a Cat,” Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World,” Dave Brubeck’s “Take 5,” and other classics.

True musical “road warriors,” the Strutters have performed in all 50 states, as well as internationally, for four decades. They love their music – and they love their audiences! The Side Street Strutters are delighted to bring the Ripon Arts League the closing concert of the 31st season.

About the Artists

In 1983 a group of talented musicians attending Arizona State University formed a musical ensemble with an artistic focus centered around the musical traditions of early New Orleans jazz.  Now, four decades later, the Side Street Strutters continue to expand their musical palette to encompass nearly a century of classic American jazz, brilliantly capturing the essential charm and vibrant energy of America’s musical heritage.

The Side Street Strutters entertained at Disneyland for 22 years and continue to appear at Disney special events. Their superb musicianship, showmanship, and award-winning orchestrations have earned them national and international acclaim; they have performed in all 50 states and in 7 European countries plus Canada and Mexico, on national Television and radio broadcasts, at European and US Jazz Festivals, and at the White House.

In concert, the Side Street Strutters weave a delicate tapestry of lush ballads, whimsical novelty selections, and powerful, challenging arrangements which 

showcase the individual artistry of each performer. Still touring with the original Septet, the musicians continue to offer audiences their showmanship, personable humor, and outstanding musicianship. After 4 decades of national and international touring, their non-stop energy and spontaneity proves one thing – the Side Street Strutters love what they do!
