About the Artists
Canadian clarinetist, Wesley Ferreira is an acclaimed soloist, orchestral musician, award-winning recording artist, and Associate Professor of Music at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Growing up within a tightly-knit Portuguese community, Wesley first entered his musical world through the bandas philarmónicas tradition. His Portuguese heritage and interest in Fado music has since inspired arrangements and commissions of new music for Jâca. A recent personal milestone was the 2021 release of the new professional Muse clarinet from Selmer Paris, a clarinet that Wesley helped develop. Wesley loves performing in Jâca. He always brings his infectious positivity, big smile, and way too many reeds to every rehearsal.
Jaxon Williams is an award-winning, internationally renowned performer. Specializing in Spanish Classical and Flamenco guitar, Jaxon received his Doctorate in music from USC and won a Fulbright Scholarship to master Flamenco guitar in Seville, Spain. Jaxon is dedicated to performance, artistic collaboration, and education. He is a performer-in-residence for the Sounding Board Project, a music initiative for classical guitarists and composers. He serves as California Regional Director for Lead Guitar, a non-profit bringing in-person and online classical guitar programs to low-income and rural schools. Jaxon lives in Los Angeles and in Spain. He also knows more about fingernail care than a certified beautician and can slap on a fake nail in 5 minutes or less.
Together, Wesley Ferreira and Jaxon Williams give back to cultural communities worldwide via their Jâca Cultural Exchange Program, supporting a different underprivileged music program each year with proceeds from their concerts and merchandise sales.
